Jeffrey
A. Joerres joined Manpower Inc. in 1993
as Vice President of Marketing, responsible
for the company's overall marketing strategy.
He also served as Senior Vice President
of European Operations and Global Account
Management and Development. He was appointed
the President and CEO of Manpower in 1999,
and Chairman of the Board in 2001. Manpower
Inc. is a world leader in the employment
industry, offering customers a wide gamut
of services to meet their needs in spheres
on employment and business. The company
specializes in permanent, temporary and
contract recruitment, employee assessment,
training, career transition and consulting
services. The principal activity of this
Group in to address issues of staffing
and workforce management. It imparts human
resource services including professional,
specialized, office and industrial staffing,
temporary and permanent employee testing,
selection, training and development, internal
audit, accounting, technology and tax
services and organizational-performance
consulting. The Group has an intricate
system of assessment,
selection, training and quality assurance
used by temporary staffing operations
all over. It has a worldwide network of
4,300 offices in 66 countries and territories
enables the company to meet the needs
of its customers stretching over 400,000
customers per year, which includes small
and medium size enterprises in all industry
sectors, and also some of the world's
largest multinational corporations. The
Group's operations are conducted through
both its branch offices as well as franchise
offices in the United States and Canada,
and primarily through its branch offices
in other countries. The center of Manpower's
work is raising through improved quality,
efficiency and cost-reduction, enabling
their clientele to concentrate on their
core business activities. Manpower also
operates under the trade names of Right
Management Consultants, Jefferson Wells,
Elan, Brook Street and Empower. CEO Joerres
is a member of the Board of Directors
of Artisan Funds, an investment management
firm with offices in Milwaukee, Atlanta
and San Fransisco. He is also the member
of the Board of Directors of Johnson
Controls Inc., which is an $18 billion
global market leader in automotive systems
and facility management and control.
Joerres is known as an ardent propagator
of job training and workforce development
initiatives. Director of National Association
of Manufacturers and a trustee for its
Center of Workforce Success, Joerres
is also on the board of trustees for
the Committee for Economic Development
(CED). In addition, he serves on The
Commission on Technology and Adult Learning,
an initiative of the National Governors'
Association and the American Society
for Training and development. This Commission
defines the issues on public policy for
workforce development in the information
age. Joerres has received a Bachelor
of Science degree from Marquette University,
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Prior to joining
Manpower, Joerres was Vice President
of Sales and Marketing for ARI Network
Services, a high-tech electronic data
interchange company. With such a dedicated
leader controlling the Group, it comes
as little surprise that
Manpower's portfolio of global accounts
represents more than $1 billion in annual
sales volume. In spite of facing numerous
troubles in his first five years, from
the dot-com burst, the Enron-led corporate
scandals, to the recession and the war
on terrorism, Manpower has emerged a bigger,
better and more profitable company. He
himself says as much, "We went through
the Internet bubble, we went through a
downturn, and we have emerged stronger." He
has steered manpower Inc. to growth despite
the rough waters in his initial years
at the helm. Manpower, under him, has
started doing business in countries as
China, El Salvador, Estonia, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Philippines, Poland, Romania,
Slovakia, Slovenia, Tunisia, Turkey. Joerres,
who says he doesn't enjoy travel, has
traveled 400,000 miles visiting Manpower
operations worldwide. Joerres has improved
Manpower's business model. Under him Manpower
Inc. has added many initiatives, and is
continuing to do so, including an expanded
marketing and branding presence to transform
the brand identity from a provider of
daily labors to professional placement. |
